Jonagold is a crisp apple to bite into, with gleaming white flesh. The flavour is sweet with just a touch of acidity. The skin of the apple is especially attractive with a deep red colour with splashes of green, yellow and orange.

Jonagold tend to be fairly large in size and as its name suggests is a cross between a Jonathan and a Golden Delicious. It has the tart-sweetness of the Jonathan and juicy, crispness in texture of the Golden Delicious. It makes a great apple for pressing.

To find a good-quality Jonagold in your local store look for an apple which feels firm and has a smooth, clean skin. To test the firmness of the apple simply hold it in the palm of your hand. (Do not push with your thumb). It should feel solid and heavy, not soft and light.

Also if the apple skin wrinkles when you rub your thumb across it, the apple has probably been in cold storage too long or has not been kept cool enough.

Like all the apples we use in our juices, the Jonagolds are pressed within 2 days of picking – we never cold store our apples.
